First Snow

Yesterday the weather forecast I heard was predicting 50 mm of rain for our area. As a matter of fact, when I checked the weather page earlier today they were still showing a Rainfall Warning.

Instead, on my first day of vacation, we got our first snow storm of the year. It has been snowing steadily all day. This was our view around 1:30 this afternoon.

Mid-afternoon, I happened to see this fella crossing our driveway, so grabbed the camera and took this photo through the window. Still snowing.

Then around 4:30, when I was down in the basement checking on the fire, I happened to glimpse something out the basement window that didn’t seem quite right. I stopped to focus on what I was seeing, and realized a section of the cat fence was down.

I decided I should go out and check on things.

I don’t know how easy that is to see, but the fence has come away from one of the supports, weighed down by the snow. I shook off the snow as best I could, and it did spring back up quite a bit.

Then I continued around the corner, and found another section down.

Unfortunately, there was a seam right up the pole in this spot, so the fence is down quite low and it won’t be keeping any cats in, or deer out. Hopefully we will get a good thaw before the winter really sets in, and we’ll be able to go out and fix it.

If I were The  Doctor, I’d be firing up my TARDIS and heading somewhere warmer!
